Internships at OWL

application procedure

  • Complete the Intern Application Form
  • Submit a letter of reference from your sponsoring professor. An email is also acceptable.
  • Attend an orientation session. You will be required to sign a Proof of Age Form, Code of Ethics Form, and Waiver form at the orientation.
  • Complete three evaluation shifts in a two week period. These must be completed prior to the application deadline and do not count toward the 480 hour internship requirement.
  • Complete an informal interview.

deadlines

Fall Program

The application deadline for the Fall semester is August 1st. The Fall program begins no later than August 31st.

Spring Program

The application deadline for the Spring semester is December 1st. The Spring program begins no later than January 15th.

Summer Program

The application deadline for the Summer semester is April 1st. The Summer program begins no later than May 30th.

Applications may be accepted past the deadlines based on availability. Each program ends when the 480 hours are complete. Should the 480 hours not be completed during the academic semester, overlap into the following semester is allowed but grades will not be conferred until the end of the semester in which the intership is completed. All internships must be completed within one calendar year.

internship cost

There is no cost to the student other than tuition cost for Independent Study enrollment. This is an unpaid internship program.

Out-of-State Candidates

Out-of-state candidates are required to complete the full application process in person; however, we can condense your orientation, evaluation shifts and interview into a three or four day period if necessary. If you are planning a summer internship with us we recommend that you schedule your trip to Kansas over a long weekend or spring break period.
